Dispatch from the Republican Convention
Sorry for the lack of posts on this quiet Sunday - I've been trying to get a couple of articles ready for tomorrow, so be sure to check the site tomorrow for those. In the meantime, I wanted to give a quick update about the California Republican Party convention. The hot issue of the weekend was how Republicans would resolve a dispute between conservative activists and GOP elected officials over the party's endorsement process for primary elections. Elected officials supported a plan that would have seen incumbents receive the party's endorsement automatically, whereas party activists (and the CA GOP Chairman Ron Nehring) wanted to give that power to conservative leadership within the party apparatus. The so-called "Nehring Plan" had lots of support at the convention:
However, ultimately a compromise plan was agreed upon. For details about it, take a look at this article.
I was able to interview a couple of the attendees at the convention, and we had very interesting conversations. I'll post the first one today, and folks can check back tomorrow for more. The video below is my interview with Elise Richmond - a conservative radio show host. She was kind enough to take some time to talk with me. You can find information about her show here.
